In semi-shade, with other pots containing Coryphantha compacta, Echinocereus scheeri, Mammillaria grahamii, and Ferocactus alamosanus.; Without label, but Paul Martin provides the following field data. The plant has been in a pot in our patio ever since. It regularly flowers around May first. (Paul Martin, pers. comm. to ADZ on 12 May 1994). Plant about 4 dm long, basally woody and nearly prostrate, the branches three and all hanging stiffly downward out of the flower pot, with the distal parts resting lightly on the floor of the patio. Mary Kay O`Rourke says that in the wild the stems were supported in the branches of a shrub to a height of a couple feet. In full bloom in outdoor horticulture. Collected by Allan D. Zimmerman (2910) 1 May 1994.; Roots described as dahlia-like in the field notes.",

"description": "The Arizona State University Vascular Plant Herbarium (ASU) is among the most important in the greater Sonoran Desert region with over 315,000 specimens. We are particularly proud of our holdings of Cactaceae which include over 1,100 chromosome counts.\r\nAn herbarium is a collection of pressed, dried, and archived plants that are systematically arranged - each specimen a physical record of a plant growing at a particular place and at a particular time. Like most herbaria, we seek to document the geographical and ecological distribution of the regional flora, facilitate research, support teaching, and promote conservation. Vouchers from floristic studies have resulted in comprehensive collections of many important geographic regions in Arizona.\r\nASU Type Specimens: http://swbiodiversity.org/seinet/checklists/checklist.php?cl=2638",
