When young, convex with depressed center, slightly fibrillose (most of fruit body covered by sand)., purple brown to darker red-brown in color-gills subdistant, free, stipe up to 2 cm. broad, 5-10 cm long, and almost root-like in deep sand. stipe slightly striate, thickening and widening at bottom to fairly bulbous. flesh is beautiful lilac when young. color tends to change to darker red-brown with age, tending to less lilac and more brown. older fruit bodies have depressed center and very wavy margins; fruiting habit: solitary to small groups in sand; odor none; taste fungal, gritty; spore print color white to light gray, sandy.",
