"dwc:fieldNotes": "NOTEBY J. Longino: Rio Claro; An Alchornea c.f. costaricensis tree along the river is full of Azteca ant gardens. These nests are topped by an epiphytic Aechmea and hanging from all of them was Peperomia macrostachya. Croat mentions that this Peperomia species is often associated with ant nests, and \"sometimes associated with Aechmea tillandsioides var. kienastii on the same ant nest.\" The entire Alchornea tree was covered with scale insects under carton shelters, being tended by ants. I collected one of the smallest nests. It contained no brood. The root matrix was infested with collembola and mites. I found numerous fly larvae (not reared) and two small spiders.",
