The U.S. National Science Foundation and iDigBio are required to collect information on use of digitized collections-based specimen data. Please help us meet this requirement every time you use this search portal. Sustainability of the national digitization effort depends on evidence of data use! Maybe later.

Queensland Museum provider for OZCAM Queensland Museum collections date back to the 1860s. Many early specimen records contained incomplete or inaccurate spatial information and in such cases, no interpretation of accuracy has been applied herein. When the museum commenced databasing in the mid-1980s, terms were introduced to represent assumed accuracies of collecting information. The terms below are a refinement of disparate lists and have been used for mapping to the Darwin Core field 'coordinateUncertaintyInMeters'. The table below shows how the terms are represented in metres of accuracy and the assumptions made in assigning these values. Term coordinateUncertainty InMeters Assumptions Surveyed (ground control) 1 International Terrestrial Reference Frame is used for ground survey mapping Google Earth 20 Latitude and longitude taken from Google Earth by positioning cursor over land feature GPS reading 50 In-field GPS reading, but correct datum is not assumed Collector's data 500 Generalised - usually legacy data, pre-GPS Centrepoint of geographic unit 1000 Centroid values used when no other, more accurate method has been recorded, (e.g. "Fraser Island"). This table shows any data corrections that were performed on this recordset to improve the capabilities of iDigBio Search. The first column represents the correction performed. The last two columns represent the number and percentage of records that were corrected. A complete list of the data quality flags and their descriptions can be found here. Clicking on a data flag name will take you to a search for all records with this flag in this recordset.
