O Herbário da Reserva Natural Vale foi registrado em 1979, no Index Herbariorum, e publicado no The Herbaria of the World, em 1981, sendo reconhecido internacionalmente como Herbário CVRD.
As coletas botânicas na Reserva iniciaram-se em 1963 e se tornaram uma atividade sistematizada a partir de 1978, quando foram intensificadas as pesquisas com flora realizadas na área. Desde então, o conhecimento sobre a flora local continua aumentando, incluindo a descoberta de novas espécies.
